Abel and Schafer Inc., with its North American head quarters in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. , provides the baking industry with a wide variety of high quality breads, cakes and muffin mixes and bases, as well as full line of sours, dough conditioners and concentrated additives and flavors.  Abel  and Schafer is looking for a Food Scientist, who will be part of the R&D Department  and will perform specific tasks in the Regulatory and Product Development fields.   In the Regulatory  area, the Food Scientist will take care of the following tasks:  assures integrity of ingredient and nutritional data bases to nutrient values and outcomes, assures ingredients and formulas are in full compliance with laws and regulations of USA and Canada.  Issues labeling for products and approves final artwork and text for product packaging to ensure it meets regulatory requirements. Monitors regulatory  activities, researches interpretations regarding the safety and acceptability of products and ingredient, assures that the databases are up to date.  Provide guidance to R&D project teams, Marketing and other internal partners on regulatory matters, recommend options and implement solutions to resolve problems.  Communicate technical/regulatory information related to our product portfolio to our customers base to address inquiries, in the Product Development area, the Food Scientist needs to demonstrate the understanding of the product development process, be flexible to perform various job duties, work with others on a team, work flexible hours when needed, demonstrate computer skills, project management, time management and interpersonal skills.  She/he will be responsible for:  developing new product formulas, manage multiple projects, both short term and ongoing, on a deadline basis, apply scientific principals in research and development of nutritionally designed foods, analyze the nutritional content of formulas and recipes to assure they meet the customer/legal requirements.  The ideal candidate has: a Bachelor Degree in Food Science or related science, is required, at least 2-3 years experience in the regulatory field or Food Product Development, specific knowledge on labeling and food additive material compliance, knowledge of Genesis (or equivalent) R&D Food Formulation and Labeling Software, Spanish and German a plus.,
